Motorcycle Repair: 1981 CB750C Clutch Adjustment, clutch adjustment, clutch cable

Question
Just bought this bike two days ago. No manual, yet. Need adjustment specs on the screw with lock nut under the large aluminum cap on the clutch cover. I have adjusted others and seem to remember turning it in so far and then backing it out so many turns and then tightening the lock nut. There is a noise in the tranmission which goes away when the clutch is disengaged. I'm thinking the clutch is out of adjustment. Maybe?

Answer
Steve,
the noise is likely in the transmission or some
bearing near the clutch possibly. If the noise keeps getting
louder you may have to check it out.
First give your clutch cable some slack,
then loosen the locknut and tighten the screw until
you feel some resistance, back it out about 1/4 turn
or so and lock the nut. Adjust your cable for
1/8" to 1/4" slack or free play.
As far as noise goes, the cb750's often have
a noisy primary chain, especially at idle.
It has no adjustment just a spring loaded
tensioner so has to be replaced during
a rebuild.
