Motorcycle Repair: Front tire removal 1999 Marauder, suzuki marauder vz 800, marauder vz 800

Question
1999 Suzuki Marauder (VZ 800) Trying to remove front wheel. Owners manual says to remove bolts from front disk brake and then slide off caliper from the rim. This will not work.  The caliper is too big to slide off of the disc. It hits the rim. How do I get it off? The disc cannot be removed from the wheel.

Answer
Scott,
Just a followup note:
be careful not to bump the brake
lever when the caliper is off the disc,
the brake pad pistons will fly out and make
a mess. You could stick a piece of wood
in between the pads for safety sake until
you get it back together. Remember your
brake lever will take a few pulls to get the
pads back in their original place.
----------------------------

the problem is likely the brake pads being
tight on the disc. You might have to push the
pads back in slightly to get the caliper to
twist enough to clear the rim.
You might be able to pry or push the pads
in with a lever or by twisting the caliper a bit.
Be careful not to break or damage any seals
around the brake pad pistons.
