Motorcycle Repair: 1985 Goldwing ignition, charging system, fuses

Question
When I turn my ignition switch to the on position, nothing lights up meaning the instrument lights. When the switch is off the clock works, when I turn it on again the clock does not work either. Do I need a new ignition? My battery is new and I have been riding the bike a lot this year. This all started when I went to start the bike. All the instrument lights were on and when I started the bike it jumped into gear and the the instrument lights went dead. Now I don't have any means of starting the bike. What should I do?
Thanks, Eddie

Answer
Eddie,
I would first check all your fuses, it sounds
like a main fuse might be gone.
Double check that your battery is fully charged
and the connections are good.
I would check the charging system if you get it
started. It is possible the switch is bad but I
would check the other things first.
