Motorcycle Repair: Shovel with oil leak and shifting problems..., clutch lever, clutch release

Question
Hi Mike! A request for your expertise for an ol' 1970 FLH in pretty original condition in Liectenstein, Europe. Trouble Nr. One: Bringing the lady back to life after 2 years stand-by caused the fully acceptable small pools of oil in the tappet guides against the base of pushrod covers to become a serious spill of oil. All four covers spilling oil from everywhere, even from the center sleeves where the springs are located. After a short ride the whole crankcase was a mess. I disassembled covers, pushrods, gaskets and and nothing serious was to be seen... Where should I start without stripping everything? What could 2 years standby have caused to plug an oil return in such a way? Trouble Nr. Two: My shovel was always an extremely hard shifter. Shifting hurts everytime my heart and I hear the transmission really suffering. The clutch release lever  has the right clearence to the cover before starting to push, the clutch push rod travels a long path and seems to give the discs plenty of space to disengage. I have tried to loosen the clutch spring adjusting nuts until are almost totaly loose (I can turn it with the fingers) trying to cause the opposite problem of draging with a sliping clutch and even in this configuration there is no slip while I crank the engine to start it and still shifts hard... When I ride and I pull the clutch lever to shift down when I approach an intersection I have the impression the slowering wheel brings the revs of the engine also down as the clutch would be still closed. I give then a short throttle pull and I feel how the clutch is only then disengaging the discs (just for information, this shovel is belt driven inside a closed but vented housing). I will damage the tranny if I continue like this! Once again: without stripping everything can you give me a clue with my description? Sorry for the primitive English, many thanks in advance and kind regards! Christian.

Answer
On your pushrod covers leaking. remove them and replace the gaskets. the springs int hem might be weak so replace them as well.
As to the shifting, I would remove the trans and rebuild it. Your shifter forks might be worn out and need replaced as well as the spacing is probably off
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
