Motorcycle Repair: electrical front voltage regulator, voltage regulator, stator

Question
Bought Ultra Classic 2001 bike used. Connection from voltage regulator was spliced. Wire burnt during long trip (over 50 miles). Is my problem voltage or the stator output? Ultra Classic 45 amp or did they put 32 amp voltage regulator during repair? I replaced splice and it still burns up... Help?

Answer
I have no idea what's been done to your bike.  If battery voltage at the terminals while the bike is running is 14.3 volts, it's charging fine.  Stator output should be about 40 volts AC at 2000 rpm and neither stator prong should have continuity to ground.  Voltage regulator also must have a good ground.
