Motorcycle Repair: Fuel Leak, suzuki c50, fuel cap

Question
Mr. Mike,
I have an 06 Suzuki C50 and it's leaking fuel from the gas cap. The dealer has replaced 3 tanks and now tells me that Suzuki says that it is leaking because it has a fuel tank vent on the cap itself. If overfilled it will leak from cap on a hot day. I know fuel expands when hot, but my concern is the safety issue of fuel leaking down the right side of my tank and onto my engine and exhause pipes. I thought that it was not legal to vent out of a fuel cap on a motorcycle? Help, please.
Thanks.

Answer
the vent is to keep from a vaccumn on the tank. If you hve a vaccumn on the tank you will not flow gas. If you have fuel leaking down to the motor you are talking a chance on it catching on fire. I would change the fuel cap and see if that doesnt help
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
