Motorcycle Repair: HD evo engine oil pump on 1990, circlip, oil light

Question
My oil pump broke. After changing my oil, I ran the engine for about 1 minute & I saw oil flowing into the tank. I parked it. Next morning, idling & warming up. I heard a groan and it died. It started right up but the oil light stayed on. I pulled the pump cover & the gears did not move when cranking engine (plug wires pulled). Do I need any special tools to fix this?

Answer
No, just experience and a service manual.  You probably sheared an oil pump shaft key.  You have to remove the cam cover (after you remove the pushrods) and get the circlip off the inside end of the pump shaft.  You said the pump gears did not move, but was the shaft turning?  If so, then it's a pump gear key and you don't have to pull the cam cover, just the pump.
