Motorcycle Repair: 95 Heritage Softail has faint knock, rod bearing, heritage softail

Question
My beloved 95' Heritage has only 16K miles and in great shape.  Only had it about a year.  I notice a slight knock after it gets to normal op temp.  Mainly hear it in third gear at 28 mph.  It's not loud, but I hear it and am concerned I might be hearing something amiss.  Could it be a dirty tappet oil screen preventing sufficient oil delivery to lifters?  Motor runs perfect.  Could this be a normal sound?

Answer
Noises are hard to diagnois on here, due to the fact I cant hear them!
Your knock could be several things. Check your primary chain for adjustment. If its more of a ticking then its probably a lifter. Most harleys tick. Its because the lifters are on the outside of the motor and its the valve lash that is making the noise. My own personnel bike ticks.
It doesnt really hurt anything, just bothersome.
The worse thing is could be is a rod bearing going south, but generally it will knock worse at idle then at speed.
Good luck and happy riding
