Motorcycle Repair: shift arm oil seal leak, sheet metal screw, shift rod

Question
02 Road King-I have the chain case removed. After removing the shift rod lever, snap ring, and washer, is there any way to remove the oil seal without digging into the transmission.

Answer
Tom, as with any oil seal, do it carefully and slowly.  First I usually tap on the seal edge with a small punch to see if it will cock itself and push the other side out enough to pull it with a small pointed right angle pick.  If it doesn't, then I drill a shallow 1/8" hole close to the outside edge of the seal and thread in a hard sheet metal screw.  Then slowly pry or pull out by the head of the screw.
