Motorcycle Repair: 1975 cb125 Honda Electrical, fuse box, cb125

Question
Thanks, Chris!

I appreciate the options. The fuse looks fine.  I'll replace it all together.  Per other options, I'm also looking at the ignition and kill-switch since these two items are directly in the wiring path between the battery and headlight (to test).  I'll go forward with your suggestion(s) and others I've seen.  Thanks, again!

James

-----Question-----
Hi Chris,

I was riding my 125 from work back to home at night when the bike started to sputter after a long traffic stop.  I pulled over turned off the bike and restarted (Kill-switch off, turned off the headlight, turned the key, placed bike in neutral). The neutral light did not come one nor did the bike kick-start.  I trickled charged the battery over dinner and placed back into the bike.  I checked the fuses and connections. (I did not test the condenser nor spark from the spark plug).  The neutral light still did not come on.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, James

Hi James.

On all models there is a main fuse, which is not always obvious to find, that can go bad out of the blue like that.  Sometimes the main fuse is mistaken as an unimportant part of the starter wiring, but becomes obvious when you look around and find that there is no "main" fuse in the fuse box.

As old as your bike is, it may have a fusible link instead of a fuse.  If it has a fusible link, then replace the link with a fuse of the proper amperage (usually 30amps - refer to the repair manual to be sure).  Fuse sockets can be had at any auto parts store.

You may need to check for a short in the main wiring.  Use the repair manual.  It has the wiring diagram to follow.

Good luck and ride safe.

Answer
Hi James.

Glad I could point you in a helpful direction.  I have always found that if I point a person in a direction they take far more with them, when they find the problem, than if I just hand them the total solution.

Basically, I would rather teach you to fish than give you a fish.

Ride safe and enjoy that little classic bike.
