Motorcycle Repair: zx-7r, kawasaki ninja zx, long periods

Question
Hey Chris!  I have a 2001 kawasaki ninja ZX-7R and i stored it for a few months without turning it on or nothing..it's just been sitting there and now it wont start at all after i charged the battery.  It had gas in it when i stored it and i'm sure that's where the problem is..the gas line or carbs or something like that.  if that's the case how do i clean the carbs or fuel injection and how do i drain the remaining bad gas left in the tank.  i'd appreciate your advice.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Moises.

Never ever, under any circumstances leave fuel in a bike when you store it.  The fuel turns to "varnish" and gums up everything in the bike's fuel system.  Here's what you now need to do;

1)  Pull and COMPLETELY clean the carbs.

2)  Pull, drain and reseal the tank.

3)  Replace the fuel lines.

4)  DO NOT RE-USE THE OLD FUEL.  Dispose of it in accordance with local environmental regulations.

There is no other solution to this problem.

The next time that you store the bike for long periods like that, there are specific things to do to insure a proper and timely startup afterwards.  Make sure that you get those proceedures and follow them.

Good luck and ride safe.
