Motorcycle Repair: Muffler - 82 Honda CM250C, replacement mufflers, starter bike

Question
Hi.  I'm trying to restore a 1982 Honda CM250C.  I'm having a difficult time finding replacement mufflers for the bike.  It would appear a previous own welded on aftermarket mufflers with removable baffle cores, but I can't figure out where and how to get the correct replacement baffles (no info no the brand of welded on mufflers available).  I know that I can get OEM mufflers for a total of $300.  I'm looking for something reasonable for this starter bike.   Suggestions, please?

Answer
Hi Jason.

First of all, a restoration project is not a good idea as a starter bike.  Restorations always end up costing far more than planned to get them up to operational status.

Secondly, spend the money and get the OEM parts.  You are always better off with OEM.

Thirdly, if you are looking at a starter bike, get an old beatup bike that runs til you get the experience, then worry about riding a restored machine, which, btw, will turn some heads when you show up on it if it looks good.

Good luck and ride safe.
