Motorcycle Repair: Rear end, pades, axle nut

Question
Mike,  I would like to remove my rear tire on my 1999 soft-tail custom. I would like to change brake pades and do some others things. I have been told to watch my spacing so I can get the bike back together straight. Can you give me instructions on how to remove my rear tire and then align it correctly when I put it back together. Thanks in Advance

Answer
First you need to jack the bike up and get the weight off the tire. Remove the axle nut and slide the axle out. Watch the spacers. They will probably fall out. Just remember, or mark them, where they go. Slip the belt off the pulley. Now jack the bike up farther until you can get eh wheel out. Dont turn the wheel adjusters. Now that you have the wheel out you can do what you need to. Put it back together in reverse order. Once you have the wheel on and the axle in check the adjustment of the wheel. Measure both adjusters to make sure they are the same. They probably are sonce you didnt change them.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
