Motorcycle Repair: 76 Sportster Clutch Cable Replacement, clutch lever, clutch cable

Question
As I was riding yesterday, I heard/felt a pop while shifting gears. Next thing I know my clutch lever is loose and the cable had completely seperated from the lever. Being new to older HD's, I was wondering if you might be able to assist me in replacing the cable, as I have no way of getting it into a shop at this point. I know I'll have to purchase a new cable, it's the replacement aspect I'm looking for help with.

Thanks.

Answer
Drain the trans oil. Remove the primary cover. Inside the cover you will see how the cable is connected. Installt he new cable into the cover and installt he cover back on. Install the other end of the cable int he clutch lever. Now adjust the cable so that you have about 1/8 inch play in the lever. Put in fresh oil in the trans
Good luck and happy riding
