Saab: Saab 9-3 2001

Question
Hello,

I have a 9-3 from 2001 wit 135.000 kms

The engine produces a rattling noise (not too bad) where the time chain must be located.
I do to check the severeness of the problem ?
Is dismounting the oilpan enough to check the chain tension ?

Can the tensioner be replaced easily ?

Thanks

Filip

Answer
Filip:
I am sorry, but as noted in my profile, my hands on experience is limited to the older 900s only. On those models,it was not possible to replace the tensioner without removing the engine, but it WAS possible to adjust it to take up slack using a special 13 mm wrench. There are websites where you can subscribe to technical manuals which can help with your question with a bit of research.
 Hope this helps,
