Motorcycle Repair: skipping or misfiring, plug cap, process of elimination

Question
There isn't any backfiring or popping from the exhaust.  Someone had mentioned that it might possibly be that the valves or timing is out of whack.  It basically sounds like it is starving for fuel and starts sputtering.  In a similiar question, they tended to rule out the CDI box or coil problems for the missing.  When cooler and at lower speeds the bike does well and doesn't skip a beat and you have all the throttle.  Thanks again.

Question -
My 82 Yamaha XT200 misfires at higher speeds and once the bike is warmed up.  At first I thought it might be a carb problem with some gunk in the jets are other areas, but I have cleaned it multiple times.  I also noticed that someone else asked this exact same question but I can find it in the monsterous list.  So basically, cutting out or misfiring once warm and once you lay into the throttle in the higher gears.  Thank you.

Answer
Taylor,

Of course there are multiple reasons this can happen.

Here are my top three, and I believe it is one of them.  It would be impossible for me to tell you exactly which one without looking at the bike but I bet it is one of them.

1) Not enough fuel: partially clogged jet (cleaning sometimes not good enough), replace them all, if still happening...

2)Jetted insufficiently at higher throttle: Raise the needle one or two (lower the clip), if doesn't do it..go the next size up on your main jet.  If you're not familiar with jetting, here is a good site:

3) If still a problem..are u using a new plug? is timing correct? if yes then it is most likely wiring - this can be numerous things, the spark plug cap, start with replacing that and continue checking and replacing the wiring all the way to the CDI, then from that to the ignition.

Good luck.  You must use the process of elimination.
