Motorcycle Repair: fuel line, fuel vapors, diameter hose

Question
Hi, I have a 1981 GS450L Suzuki. I ran my bike two weeks ago to see how it was wondering and when I turned around on the round it acted like it was choking. I was told it was the fuel cock so I took the tank apart and ordered a new fuel cock. While I was waiting for the part I decided to start the bike without the tank on, and it started right up so I thought it was the right thing to do. I got the part today hooked it up and it is still not starting. I did put on a differnet fuel line and I was wondering if it could be a wrong size fuel line.  thanks

Answer
Hi Douglas,

The fuel line should supply adequate amount of fuel if the line was able to be installed on the fuel fittings. It's best to have the proper diameter hose in place.

I suspect a problem with the tank venting fuel vapors. If the cap vents or carb vents are restricted by varnished fuel or rust, etc... fuel flow may be restricted or stopped. Opening the gas cap usually allows the tank to be vented until vapors builds up again and the problem returns.

Otherwise, I would need to perform a few tests to accurately diagnose the problem.
