Motorcycle Repair: honda steed rebuild kit 400cc 1993, honda steed, main bearings

Question
sorry newer than you like. any ideas. i'm in thailand with 40,000 kilometers and it's only a matter of time. starting to hear the marbles.

Answer
Wayne, I had to look that up to see what it was! Basically a 400cc version of the US VLX600 twin. 40k isn't a lot of miles on these bikes, if they are well cared for. I would check with www.davidsilverspares.com in the UK, www.cmsnl.com in Holland. They appear to still be making them now, so check around to see if there are any wrecked ones with good motors and just do an engine swap. I suppose that a 600 motor will bolt right in, if you can find one over there.

The main parts to be concerned with are probably camchains, tensioners and valve stem seals. A fresh set of rings and maybe rod/main bearings would be good. You won't know for sure until you tear it apart.
