Hi I have a 1998 harley sporster 883.  I have made no recent changes but have started having trouble in the last few weeks.  After running ok for a few minutes it cuts out and will not start again.  It starts again if left for a few hours when engine is cool again.  I have checked that the fuel is reaching the carb and it is. Have you any ides as to what else it could be? thanks Graham

When it shuts off are you getting spark? Pull a plug and hold to the head and turn the bike over. let me know what you find

Answer
Since youa re not getting spark then its either the coil is failing when hot or the ignition is failing. Test the coil with a OHM meter cold and then heat it in a over to about 200 degrees and test. Should be about the same if it is good. You are not going to have to equipemtn to test the ignition
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
