Motorcycle Repair: brake pad replacement, rear brakes, pad replacement

Question
Mike,

I own a 2004 Fatboy with 5,000 miles on it. I was wondering how complicated it would be to replace the brake pads. In past years, I've replaced many brake components on various types of vehicles, but never on a bike. How complicated would it be to replace the rear brakes on my Fatboy? Also, what is the normal life of the factory pads? (I use both front and back brakes while braking).

Thanks,

Matt

Answer
Its hard to say how long brake pads will last. It depends on how hard you brake and the material they are made out of.
To replace them, looking at the outside of the caliber you will see two or three bolts. Remove them and the caliber will split. Install the pads just like they came out.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
