Question
2000 KAWASAKI 750 VULCAN 40,000 MILES

HEAD LITE BRIGHTNESS VARIES WITH ENGINE SPEED-

CHARGED BATT- RAN FOR ACOUPLE OF HOURS THEN DIED AND DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO TURN OVER- REPLACED BATT- CHARGED OVER NITE- DROVE 150 MILES AND DIED- APPEARED TO BE RUNNING ON BATT- JUMPED AND CHARGED FOR A FEW MIN- RAN FOR 15 AND DIED AGAIN- THE LONGER I CHARGE THE BATT THE LONGER IT RUNS

IS THIS A REPAIR FOR NOVICE?

ANY GUESS ON WHAT IT WOULD COST?

WHERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO BUY THE PART?

Answer
Hi R,

Get a copy of the Service Manual. I recommend spending the extra money to get Honda's manual.

The charging system needs to be inspected to islolate the defective part(s), if any.

Perform an alternator output test. Test individual charging system components for proper operation. Replace any components that are not within service limits.

Visit Electro Sport's website and follow their Fault Find Charts. I recommend their parts over OEM parts. Much finer quality, not mass produced.
