Motorcycle Repair: flames/poping out front exaust, brain power, ironhead

Question -
hi, i have a 73 xlch1000 ironhead
was running good after tune-up but the advance weights and springs gave up so i replaced them and timed the bike.  it runs but it keeps poping out the exaust and carb.  i tried to adjust the points and timing in all different directions with no change.  adjusting carb won't help either.  almost like the advance mechanisum isn't working properly because of the flames out of front pipe.  please help i'm out of brain power.        thnks a million

You never said it you changed the condenser. I would change it also. Also, try another set of points. You might have gotten a bad set

i have tried a good condenser points basicaly everything under points cover   i just don't know
i even replaced wire to coil with no results
any other ideas?      thanks

Since you said it was running right for a while, the you need to look at the advance weights you put in to make sure you got them in right. I would also do a test on the coil and plug wires. Either could have went out on you. If the timing is off a littleand you have the points set right it should still run.
Check your plugs and see if they are fouling. That would be a good indication of a bad coil
