Motorcycle Repair: CB350, type of plugs, proporty

Question
Hey Falcon, i recently found a CB350 twin, on old proporty that hasnt been tended in a while. I'm planning on getting the bike running, it was coverd up and seemd to be in nice shape. I kicked over the motor and it wasnt seased, so im going to buy new plugs, but i dont really know the year (Estimated 1974), so what type of plugs shuld I buy. And if there are any other common problem that i might run into with a cb in this situation please inform me. Thanks alot

Matt

Answer
Hi Matt.

Since the bike is a restoration, you will need to get the registration taken care of.  The vin# as well as the registration documents, will have the year in it so you can find the repair manual for the bike.

You will need to do a few things;

1.  COMPLETE carb clean.

2.  Flush the motor and replace the oil and oil filter.

3.  Replace the air filter.

4.  Replace the tires and innertubes (they will have dry-rot).

5.  Reseal the tank.

6.  Replace the fuel lines.

7.  If the manifolds are cracked (they likely are), replace them or you will have mixture related problems as well as problems doing the carb synchro.

8.  Do the valve and ignition timing.

9.  Replace the points and plugs.

10.  Check the wiring harness.  You may need to replace it as it will likely have shorts due to age.

11.  There are about a hundred other things to check as well, so go online to as many motorcycle websites as possible for additional advice on restoration projects.

Good luck and ride safe.
