Motorcycle Repair: Harley Davidson clutch adjustment, clutch adjustment, locknut

Question
how do i adjust the clutch on my 1987 FXLR

Answer
Locate the adjuster on the cable. Lossen the locknut and turn the adjuster so you are making the cable shorter.
Sit the bike upright and remove the derby cover. Under it you will see the clutch. In the center there is a adjuster with a locknut around it. Loosen the locknut. Turn the adjuster outward about a turn and then turn it inward slowly, just until it touches. Now go back out about 1/8 of a turn. Tighten the locknut.
Go back to the cable and turn the adjuster so the cable get longer. You want about 1/8 inch play int he clutch lever. tighten the locknut and your set to go.
Good luck and happy riding
