Motorcycle Repair: 1993 suzuki gs500e wont idle, 1993 suzuki gs500e, air leaks

Question
Hi I have a 1993 GS500E Suzuki. I was riding home and gave it some throttle from a set of traffic lights and it cough and spluttered then lost power and was very sluggish. I checked the diaphragms in the carby. One had a very small hole.Sending I checked the cams and they where slightly out of wack.Re-set the timing also checked the cam clearance on the valves. Then connected vacuum gauges and the carby's are sinked but it looks like that they are saying rubber inlet manifold. Is there any in the? After doing all that(still waiting for my diaphragms.

Answer
Brian, I think you must have it figured out already. A sudden tear in the diaphragm will render the carby useless. Checking the rest was a great idea, so that you have a good baseline to work from, but your new diaphragm will probably get it back to full function, once again. I would check the intake manifolds, as they get hard and shrink over the years, causing air leaks that can affect performance.
