Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha Electrical, oem parts, performance ignition

Question
1980 xt 500g yamaha, new oem parts: rectifier, voltage regulator, magneto, ignition coil & main ignition switch, after market cdi box from hyperpack performance ignition, cleaned all connections and grounds, Problem: getting 12 volt reading @ main ignition switch that increases with rpm, Does this mean my voltage regulator is bad?

Answer
Hi Mark.

An increase in volts with an increase in rpm's is normal, but the volts should not exceed 14VDC.
The volts increase to make sure that the battery charges and the system is provided with enough power to run any and all electrical components.

Good luck and ride safe.
