Question -
My husband has a 1981 Harley Davidson FLT and is having trouble removing the drive chain case in order to remove the back tire to replace it.  Can you help by giving instructions? We can't find anything about it in the manuals he has.  Diane

Answer -
You have the enclosed chain that runs in oil?

Answer
I havent seen one of these bikes for a long time. Removeing the wheel is a real pain in the rear, probably why harleys quit making them!
First thing you have to do is disconnect the upper and lower boots whick go around the sprocket. There are bolts that are in the from and rear of it. Once you have them loose they should come out. Jack the bike up so there is on pressure on the rear tire. Its a little tight. Now you can get the axle out and break the chain.
there is a pic in the harleys service manual for FLT/FXR 1980 to 1983. If you need one the part number is 99483-83
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
