Question -
I have a 2005 softail deluxe- carburated.
I have a constant ticking noise on the front end. It started late last fall, and I took it to the dealership. The mechanic told me that a lot of bikes will start doing this, and that this was ok.  Well i don't think it should be doing this. What is this and what can I do, maybe without taking it to the dealership.

Answer -
Is the ticking coming from the motor at the rockers? If not where does it sound like its coming from?
Mike

Answer
You have a lifter tick. It is caused by the valve lash between the lifter and the rocker. It doesnt hurt anything and most harleys have it. Most cars do it to, but the pushrods are inside the motor and you cant hear it. On a harley the pushrods are outside of the motor so you can hear it.
Good luck and happy riding
