Motorcycle Repair: Front Wobble, steering damper, wheel bearings

Question
I am getting a wobble on the front end as I hit 50+ mph, then when I hit speeds of 100+ mph the front end starts vibrating. the tyres still have plenty of tread and are not that worn.

would you have any idea what might be causing this?

Answer
Hi Paul.

There are 3 possibilities here.  You could need a steering damper on the bike, you could need a steering head bearing replacement or you could need wheel bearing replacement.

If this is a new problem that has never happened before at those speeds, then start with the wheel bearings and steering head bearings.

If this problem is something that has happened since the bike was brand new, then a steering damper is the solution.

Good luck and ride safe.
