Motorcycle Repair: CB500 twin fuel problem., bike mechanics, bike mechanic

Question
Hi Chris, Hope you can help.
My wife has a 2001 CB500 twin which was running fine 2 days ago. When she tried to start it yesterday, it ran for a few seconds then died. When she tried to re-start it, it wouldn't, and fuel was pouring out of the breather pipe onto the ground. On further investigation, it is coming out of the breather pipe connecting the 2 carbs.
My expertise with bike mechanics is only limited. Is this something I should attempt myself or should I take it to the nearest bike mechanic? Thanks. Dave

Answer
Hi Dave.

Most problems can he handled by anyone who is reasonably mechanically inclined.  This problem sounds like a failure of the floats (which is rare, but happens).
It sounds like the bike is flooding because of that, but if you aren't confident enough to do any carb work, then get the bike into the shop and let them do it.

Get the repair manual for the bike as well and you will see how easy most things are to fix on the bike.

Good luck and ride safe.
