Motorcycle Repair: Honda CB250 Blinker Problem, honda cb250, scooter shops

Question
Hi,

I have recently purchased a 1980 Honda CB250 and all of the blinkers just died on me. They were working fine. I have checked all of the globes and even pulled the blinker switch apart incase there was some grime etc in there. Nothing has seemed to work.
I ran a multimeter test across the switch and didn't seem to get any voltage there either. I have checked all of the fuses and they are all ok.
Someone mentioned a blinker module or something, but I have no idea what that is or even where to look.
Are you able to point me in the right direction please.

Thanks a lot,

Paul

Answer
Paul, this model was not sold here, but I believe that it is probably a small version of the CB400Ts that were shipped to the US.

Go to: http://www.powersportspro.com/partsfish/Login.asp signup, log in, select HONDA, then CB400T and then left side cover/rectifier/fuse. The tiny $43 flasher is shown there as a canister shaped unit (relay turn signal). I would check with a local auto parts store to see if they have any kind of similar flasher unit on hand. Check with any local scooter shops, too. You might even pry the cover off of your old one and see if you can clean the contacts a bit, unless it is a fully electronic unit. The battery has to be FULLY charged to get them to flash when the engine isn't running.

www.westernhillshonda.com is a Honda dealer who specializes in vintage parts, but they are using current parts book prices. If you are in the UK, then check with www.davidsilverspares.com

I checked Ebay and found several options when I searched for "12v flasher"  including this interesting option.

You don't need any kind of "heavy duty" unit as the current draw is fairly minimal on these bikes. Just about anything with a 12v rating should suffice, if you can't fix your old one. In many cases any small automotive unit will suffice.
