Motorcycle Repair: timing a evo motor, evo motor, timing hole

Question
I have a 1987 softail custom, in the manual their isn,t any information, on timing of the evo motor, I also like to know what the temperature should be after it's been riden.

Answer
Remove the timing plug on the left side of the motor. Attach your timing light. have a buddy on the cam side of the bike. Start the bike. You are going to get a oi mist out of the timing hole so you have to do it quick. They do make a clear plug for the hole, but I have never had much success with them. With the timing light you should see a line on the flywheel. If you dont then you have to slowly turn the ignition until you see it
Good luck and happy riding
