Motorcycle Repair: vintage outboard motor, marine outboard engines, scott atwater

Question
Hi Falcon,
First I want to thank you for your past advice. I have a 1940's Scott Atwater 7.5 hp outboard motor serial# 33359784  when I run this motor do I have to have special gas (leaded)? Being a 2 cycle I have unleaded gas with the proper oil to gas ratio I think. Thanks even though this is not a motorcyle.                    Bob

Answer
Hi Bob.

Older engines, that came out before unleaded was the only choice, usually need leaded fuel.  There are lead additives that you can get from auto parts stores, but you may want to check with someone who specialises in marine outboard engines to be certain and to prevent any possible damage to the motor.

I am sorry that I cannot help you any more than that, but marine engines are not really my forte' at all.

Good luck.
