Motorcycle Repair: Kawasaki z7r too much vibration handlebar, excess vibration, rubber washer

Question
Hi Chris,

I'got a kawa zx7'r 1991, all the bike is reconditionning with new bearings, tires...
but i have too much vibration in handler bar and i would like to know if it's normal for that model... (my hands come in hibernate condition four an 1 hour after... so help me.) I'm looking for motor support's loose.. or if i can put a rubber "washer" between motor and support bolts..

Answer
Hi Stephane.

All of the motors from the "big 4" are pretty smooth with rubber-mounted engines and damping throughout the bike.
If you are experiencing excess vibration, then it could be that the engine is not tuned properly or that the handlebars are not dampened well enough any more.  Check all of the rubber dampers in the handlebars and the engine mouns and make sure that none of them are too hardened or damaged.
If they are all in good and servicable condition and the engine is correctly tuned, then it could be that with the rebuilding of the engine, you are now noticing the vibration that is at a normal level for the bike.  In which case, I recommend some softer, thicker grips to help dampen the vibration a bit more.

Good luck and ride safe.
