Motorcycle Repair: electrical, condenser coils, honda 750

Question
i have a 1971 honda 750. I am not getting a spark at the plug when i turn it over with the plug grounded on the cylinder head.  I would like to know how to check the parts in line for error.  Like the condensor, how do i check to see if its good. next is the ignition coils same question.

Answer
Hi Ron.

Electrical.....Why'd it have to be electrical? (Only kidding)

There are certain proceedures for checking electrical components.  All of them are supposed to be laid out, step by step, in the repair manual.

The first thing that you should check is to see if there is a spark at the other plug on that coil set.  There could be a problem with the wiring as well.
Start with the wiring.  Check for shorts, then move to the coils.  Check them in accordance with the proceedures and specs in the repair manual.  Considering the age of the bike, the problem could be anything in the ignition system from fuse to coils.

You will need, if you don't already have, the repair manualfor the bike since it has the specs for the ignition coils as well as a wiring diagram.  As far as the condenser coils, they are easy enough to just replace.  They should be replaced on a frequent basis anyway.

Good luck and ride safe.
