Motorcycle Repair: Oil Leak, honda nighthawk, epoxy fillers

Question
We own a honda Nighthawk 1984 cb700SC. There was a small schock on the bike and now there is a major leak. One Tablespoon a day aprox... We have checked all joint, oil cooler and the frame. The leak seems to be coming from under the engine where it is supported. But there should not be any oil there. And it is not where the connection from the frame and the bolt is... Is there something to put in the oil to prevent leak without damaging any thing else?

Answer
Anne-Marie... The engine case may be cracked there from the damage, if I understand you correctly. There are products like JB Weld, here in the US, that are epoxy fillers that are heat and oil resistant. You would have to apply them to the damaged area when it is clean and sanded to help it grip the metal. If the frame is in the way, you will have to remove the engine to access and repair it. Once that is done, it may be wiser to see if it can be welded instead for a more permanent repair.

Find an old mattress or something soft to lay the bike over on its side. Drain the fuel tank or remove it first, however. That may make it eaiser to see and to work on.

There are no "stop leak" products to add to oil for this kind of problem.
