Motorcycle Repair: 1300 VTX brake petal adjustment, 1300 vtx, fine tune

 I just bought a 1300 VTX Retro (2004). I need to adjust the brake petal downward.  I bought it from a lady and I think the petal was adjusted upwards for her height.  I have to pick my foot up to use the brake . Any sugestions will be helpful.  Thanks Wayne

Hi Wayne.

There are usually 2 ways to adjustt the brake pedal height.  One is a major adjustment and one is a fine-tune adjustment.

Major adjustment;

Remove the lock-down bolt on the brake pedal at the hinge point.  You will see that the rod that the brake pedal is attached to has teeth on it.  Remove the pedal and reinstall it at the correct pedal height for you.

Fine-tune adjustment;

On the pedal itself or on the frame where the pedal stop is, there is a screw and lockdown nut.  Loosen the nut and adjust the pedal with the screw.  Retighten the lockdown nut.
