Motorcycle Repair: sportster piston replacement, wrist pin, clearence

Question
mike
Have a 1978 sportster that i bought sight unseen. it ran but needed work. when i removed front piston the wrist pin bushing came out with the wrist pin. the new wrist pin does not fit the replacement bushings(i tried 3 different ones). is this normal for harley,s? im trying to do this without disassembling the engine. Jims and Ram-Jett make a wrist pin bushing reamer tool that sounds like what i need but are expensive. any help greatly appreciated.

Answer
Any time you replace a bushing it must be honed to size. The problem is you will a bushing reamer, a micrometer and a inside micrometer to  do the job. There is a certain clearence the has to be there. To lose and the piston will rattle, to tight and the bushing will be damaged.
Good luck and happy riding
