Motorcycle Repair: Fender dent, fatboy, golf ball

Question
I have a 2003 FLSTFI Fatboy, today I noticed a golf ball sized dent in the front fender. I am wondering if the fork could have made this dent, at a sudden stop? (was cut off in traffic 2 days ago, bike was in garage until today).
Any advice on getting the dent out would also be helpful. The paint is NOT cracked. Would it be best to take the front wheel off? If so how?

Thanks,
Mike

Answer
you would really have to take a hard dive on the front end to do that, but I have seen it done. Since the paint is not cracked you might be able to take it to one of the companies that removes dents in cars. They might be able to help you without removing the wheel.
If they cant, then you are going to have to remove the fender and either have it repaired or buy a new one. Check around and see what the cost difference is.
If you have to remove the wheel you need to jack the bike up, pull the axle and remove the wheel. Then you can take the fender off.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
