Motorcycle Repair: Replacing fork seals, reply thanks, spring fork

Question
Hello,
A while back I asked a question about my bike, a 1985 Yamaha XJ700 Maxim, and you were dead on with your reply.  Thanks!

The question I have now has to do with changing the fork seals.  I removed the cap bolt, spacer, spring, fork oil etc.  But now I'm trying to seperate the upper fork from the lower fork so I can get to the seal.  I made my own fork tool using a metal rod and some 19mm nuts.  I insert the tool, brace it, and when I go to loosen up the bolt on the bottom of the forks, the bolt just seems to spin.  At first it appeared to get easier to turn, but it seems to have no end.  This is happening on both forks.

Do you have any suggestions as to how to take care of this problem?  I really want to avoid drilling if I can.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Perry,

I use a air butterfly tool with Allen socket to remove the lower bolt. That's it. Removal in a jiffy.

Having the speed and torque of air tools makes the difference. Find a source for the above tools and try removal.

Keep me posted.
