Motorcycle Repair: 1999 HONDA VFR800FI LOWERING, honda vfr800fi, triple clamps

Question
I have a 1999 honda vfr800fi and its to tall for me. Im 5'3 135lbs. This model does not have lowering links. I have already tried reducing the pre-load in front fork springs and also in the rear shock. I have  spent many of hours looking for shorter than stock, springs and rear shock. please help thank you for your time

Answer
Stephen, contact Works Performance or Progressive Suspension to see if they have a softer spring or a slightly shorter one or have them build you a custom shock ($$$). The problem with lowering the bike is that the suspension geometry will be affected.
You can drop the front forks through the triple clamps an inch or so, perhaps. Again that will steepen the steering head angle and make it steer a little quicker..maybe too quick, depending on how you ride.

If these solutions don't work for you, perhaps a 600cc version Honda will improve your ride height concerns.

Contact this group in the UK and see if anyone else has a solution.. http://www.hondavfrclub.org/forum/
