Motorcycle Repair: 84 Shadow, motor carbon brushes, starter solenoid

Question
Hi-

I have a 1984 Honda Shadow VT700.  It will not start.  When I press the start button, it clicks once that that's it.  I tried charging the battery which did nothing to remedy the problem.  FYI, the battery is about 3-4 months old, 2 month old plugs.  I'm not sure where to start? (no pun intended)  Is it the starter or something else?  Thanks a bunch!

Answer
Hi Marty,

The clicking sound is usually a weak or defective battery.

Other causes may be worn starter motor carbon brushes, worn or defective starter solenoid, loose or corroded battery/starter circuit leads.

I return test/repair tech information files by email. There was no email with question as requested in my instructions.
