Motorcycle Repair: Tick on 2001 1100 shadow spirit, screw driver, shadow spirit

Question
I just purchased the bike and love it.  I have been doing some research online about a ticking noise when the bike gets warm.  I never noticed it untill I read about it on various web chat rooms.  My bike doesn't seem to develop the tick at start up but take it down the road a few blocks and it shows up.  Some claim the lifters are responible and it does sound like a lifter tick but when I take a screw driver and hold it to my ear the top end isnt ticking at all.  Others say the primary drive gear is worn and causing the noise.  The bike has 16k miles on it and i do hear the chatter on the lower end of the motor.  Wondering if you have come across this problem and what possible solutions are recomended.
thanks

Answer
Hi Dave,

I don't know of any specific problems with the primary gear on the Shadow Spirt.

The source of the noise may be from the rocker arms or other parts. I would need to listen and investigate to give an accurate opinion.
