Hi Mark,
My son has a 1982 Honda CB 900c.  The problem he is having is shifting from 1st to 2nd gear the bike will start to buck then after you get into 3rd gear and above everything runs fine.  I am assuming that there is a possible problem with 2nd gear and that the gear will need to be replaced.  If there is anything else, that is a potential problem please let me know.  If the gear needs to be replaced can this be done with the transmission still on the bike?  Thanks in advance for your help. I would need to experience the symptoms to accurately diagnose the problem.

I'll send a couple of tech files to help you troubleshoot the problem.

I recommend you get a copy of the Service Manual. Check the local library for a loaner copy. Review the procedure of engine tear down and transmissin service to learn what is involved with the task.
