Motorcycle Repair: Charging, bikebandit com, faulty component

I have a 85 maxim 700 that is charging 10.4 volts at the battery.I was wondering how to check the rectifier and generator.The plug from the gen to rectifier was melted togeather and 2 posts were touching inside.

Hi Dustin,

I can send you electrical test how-to information in general, but I recommend the service manual to help you diagnose the problem. The manual has model specific specs that you need to know.

Also, visit "www.electrexusa.com" and follow their troubleshooting chart. I recommend their replacement parts over OEM parts.

Find service manuals at "www.bikebandit.com" and "www.yahama-motor.com"

First, repair the damaged wiring. Next, perform the output test. Lastly, isolate and test components to determine the faulty component(s).
