Motorcycle Repair: Rear Turn Signals Dont Work, honda cb 350, wiringdiagrams

Question
mark,
Turns out that the free terminal wire under the tank is green. Does this give you any idea what is supposed to connect to it...turn signals maybe. Thanks.

Mark,
My bike is a '72 Honda CB 350. After acquiring it
I found an wire nut holding 3 wires together under the seat. This is the same kind of electrical connecter an electrician would use in a house. Anyway, two of the wires connect to the rear turn signal lights. The third (10 gague) is not OEM. It appears to be sufficiently long enough though to reach any point on the bike but was sitting coiled on top of the back fender. Now, after removing the gas tank I see there is an un-plugged connector wire (female). Could this be the location the previous owner had this 10 gague wire plugged in? Is this in fact the correct terminal for the turn signal wire? I don't have the color scheme as I write this but any hint you could give for where the signal wire is supposed to be connected would help. Thanks.

Hi Bill,

10AWG wire is very heavy for anything on a MC other than a battery or starter motor lead. It's hard to say what someone was thinking (and doing) with that wire.

Turn signals need power and ground wires. In the interim, try grounding the wire-nutted wires to the frame. Elimidate the 10G wire. lol

I'll try and find the wiring diagram for your Honda. I need your email address to reply.

Answer
Bill,

The Green wire under the fuel tank is a system ground wire. This wire can be an extra for accessories or part of the problem.

The Orange and Light Blue wires are the turn signal circuit "hot" wires. Green wires are circuit grounds for the turn signals.

Visit this website and see the wiring diagram:
