Motorcycle Repair: Stored Suzuki, suzuki intruder, hi mike

Question
Hi Mike,
I have a 1998 1400 Suzuki Intruder with 9400 miles on it, that has been sitting in my garage in Maine for the last 4-1/2 years. I put the additive in the gas, filled to the top of the tank as directed by my local shop for storage.I also turned the motor over, a little, to let the treated gas circulate a little.
Since then, it has not been touched since I had to move away for work reasons.
Now, I am moving back to Maine and I would like to get it going again.
What do I need to do to restore it to good running condition? Do you think that sitting thru 4 winters has caused any serious damage?
Should the tires be replaced? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
Al Robinson

Answer
I usually only answer questions of Harleys, but I might be able to help you. First, drain the gas. Sitting that long you will probably have to pull the carbs (not sure how many you have), take them apart and clean them. Install a new battery and change the fluids. Ride the bike for around 20 miles and change the fluids again.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike

Forgot to tell you, yes I would replace the tires. They have probably dry rotted.
