Motorcycle Repair: Stripped Spark Plug Threads, kawasaki vulcan mean streak, vulcan mean streak

Question
While re-installing spark plugs in my 2003 1500 Kawasaki Vulcan Mean Streak, one plug must have stripped the threads in the cylinder head. It is in most of the way but will not entirely seat. The bike seems to run ok. What can be done?

Answer
Hi Elliot,

First thing to do is remove the spark plug and inspect the threads for evidence of damage. Depending on the damge, either chase the threads or repair them.

Repair threads with a HeliCoil insert kit: "www.emhart.com/products/helicoil.html", or a time-zert insert "www.timesert.com/sprksert.html"

See spark plug thread chaser tool here:  www.mytoolstore.com/kd/kdengi11.html
