I have a 1997 harley sportster hugger with 6,700 miles on it.  Have never had a problem with it until yesterday.  It has not been rode much the past winter months.  I rode about 80 miles about 6 weeks ago and that is it.  I went out to start it yesterday, battery was great, but it wouldn't fire.  Took sparkplugs off and replaced with new ones as guy at harley said they were fouled.  He said that the old ones were not gapped correctly and he gapped them at a different setting.  don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.  after new plugs on, it still is doing the same thing.  I hate to try and get someone to help load it up because it seems like such a small problem.  any help you can give me will be appreciated.  thank you very much.  Jeanene

First, remove the plugs and holding one to the head of the bike, turn the bike over. Are you getting a spark?
Mike THANKS FOR YOUR QUICK RESPONSE...WHEN TESTING THE PLUG, I DID NOT GET A SPARK.  ANYTHING ELSE I CAN TRY?  THANKS,  JEANENE

Answer
If you have a test light you can check the coil to see if its hot or not. using the test light, and with the ignition on, one side of the coil should be hot. if its not then you have a short in the ignition system. If it is then you probably have a ignition modual problem.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
