Motorcycle Repair: cb 750 oil filter, oil filter cartridge, honda cb750k

Question
How do you remove the housing for the oil filter cartridge to replace the filter on a 1980 Honda CB750k?  There appears to be a bolt through the center, but it does not want to budge.

Answer
If the bolt gets overtightened they can be very hard to break loose....  Use a breaker bar and a 6 point socket on the head of the bolt. If it rounds off the head, you will have to try a big set of VICE GRIPS and a hammer to loosen it up.
When you get it loose, be sure to put a drain pan underneath the filter/engine to catch the escaping oil.
Order of assembly is BOLT (put new O-ring on it first), through the housing (replace O-ring), then install the spring, washer (which may have stuck to the old filter) and then the filter. Be sure to position the filter housing correctly so it doesn't hit the fins when you are tighening it back down again. If you damage the bolt, you can get aftermarket replacements with LARGER head sizes on them. DO not overtighten the bolt on installation. Just snug it down so the housing just settles down on the engine cases. The O-rings will seal the housing properly.
